Drugs, guns, ammo and even a ballistic vest were all seized by the Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force on Tuesday as a monthlong investigation concluded and saw one man arrested and facing serious charges.
Charles Adam Sotzin, 34, of a Cedartown address was taken into custody by Drug Task Force agents away from his home on Tuesday, and he remains in the Polk County Jail without bond set on the following felony charges:
- trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine
- sell of a controlled substance
- two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
- possession of heroin
- two counts of possession of methamphetamine
- sale of methamphetamine
- possession of a schedule II controlled substance
- possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies
After the monthlong investigation, undercover buys from the Drug Task Force were able to secure fentanyl and methamphetamine from Sotzin. Agents also learned that he had several weapons and this became a serious risk enough that when he was taken into custody, they did so away from his home.
“We knew ahead of time that he had firearms, so we were able to take him into custody away from his residence to be able to control the situation,” NWGADTF Commander Steven Sweatt reported. “Once we arrived at his home with the search warrant and found the large cache of weapons he had, we were thankful to have taken the actions we did in order to ensure everyone’s safety.”
DTF agents found 18 weapons in total – Sweatt reported nine handguns and nine rifles – along with a stockpile of ammunition for the small arsenal he had in his home. They also found a ballistic vest as well.
Sweatt reported that between what they recovered at Sotzin’s residence in Cedartown and the undercover purchases of drugs, they took 48 grams of fentanyl and 16 grams of methamphetamine off the streets.
He remains in custody as of this posting without bond set. Additional charges may be pending.
