CPD: Man, teens jailed after found at closed nursing home

Two found with firearms during arrest at Cedar Hill

A closed nursing home was the setting for a Sunday arrest of three who were found on the property claiming to have car trouble, but when searched two were found to be armed and no issues with a truck overheating were reported.

Cedartown Police charged Samuel Kinbrough, 17; Abrien Haven, 18; and Dillon Bowling, 22 – all of Cedartown-area addresses – with loitering or prowling after they were found at Cedar Hill Nursing Home without good reason to be there late Sunday night, December 15, 2024.

Per the report, police were initially called out due to a report of “suspicious activity” when the three were spotted walking up the driveway to Cedar Hill, which once was a nursing home and in a past life was a high school campus. Officers investigated further because of previous reports of wire theft from the old facility and spoke to someone who originally complained, learning the trio “had been there for a while.”

Officers found the three walking back down the hill and were stopped to provide an explanation as to why they were there late at night. Bowling told police his “truck was overheating” and spotted the lights on the property to use to fix it.

When police were getting information from Kinbrough and Haven, they learned Kinbrough had a loaded revolver on him, and then Haven told police he had one as well.

Both firearms were taken by police without incident, and the trio were then taken into custody.

Bowling asked police to shut off his truck because it had been overheating, but when they got into the cab to turn off the ignition they found it was operating without issue.

Additionally, Haven was found to have two “marijuana vapes” determined to be illegal on his person as well.

Police sough additional help from a detective due to the activity at the nursing home, and it was taken to be collected as evidence including the truck. Officers did find a spool of wire and an old table in the back of the pickup as well.

The guns were run to see if they were stolen and found to be clean. Police ultimately took three firearms, phones and the vapes into custody for evidence as well.

Bowling, Kinbrough and Haven all faced charges for the incident.

Haven faced the most – a felony for possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies and possession of a schedule I controlled substance – along with misdemeanors for carrying a concealed weapon, criminal trespass, and loitering or prowling.

Kinbrough was also facing a charge for his concealed weapon, but only a misdemeanor along with the loitering or prowling and criminal trespass charge. No information was available at this time about his bond status, but he was booked into the Polk County Jail as an adult.

Bowling was booked on a loitering charge and a criminal trespass charge as well, the two only misdemeanors.

Both Haven and Bowling remained in custody waiting for bond to be set on their charges.
