The county administrative offices and those that are non-essential, along with the courts will be opening later than normal on Tuesday due to the potential for bad road conditions with temperatures set to drop overnight.
County officials posted the following notice on Facebook here minutes ago:
“Polk County administrative, non-essential offices, and courts will delay opening until 11 AM on February 16th due to (potentially) hazardous road conditions in the early morning hours. All essential employees shall report at regularly scheduled times.”
That will include the old County Administration office, where the tax and tag offices are located for customers trying to pay local tag fees on Tuesday.
Road conditions are expected to be icy with rainy weather persisting through the overnight hours with the potential for late thunderstorms, and then a big drop in temperature with some wind – gusts as high as 15 mph – that are coming in after the wet weather overnight. That is set to drop the thermometer down below freezing to 20 degrees.
The Polk County Health Department already announced their delayed opening until 10 a.m.
The cities of Rockmart and Cedartown have yet to make a decision as of this hour. The Polk School District was already off this week for Winter Break, and will return to classes on Feb. 23.
Check back for more delayed openings or closure announcements as they become available.
