Local firefighters got out their tools from rescue trucks to show off what is required to get someone out of a vehicle when it is severely damaged in a crash.
Polk County’s Facebook page shared photos this afternoon from the Polk County College and Career Academy campuses in Cedartown and Rockmart, where firefighters from Polk County Fire-Rescue brought out some of the big tools for the job of opening up wrecked cars.
Some of the students even got a chance to see how they worked.

It was part of classroom work for students in the CCA in County Commissioner Chuck Thaxton’s class. Not only did students get a chance to see how the equipment work and interact with firefighters during the class time outside with serious power tools, they also got to ask questions about how the equipment works and see up close a skillset they could learn more through a career in public safety.
The class time Friday morning also provided Thaxton’s students to apply some of what they already have learned this semester while indoors.
