City Commission to hold special called meeting on Monday

The Cedartown City Commission is holding a special called meeting on Monday for a few items they need to approve – including one in hopes of improving a local park with the help of state grant money.

City officials will first be hearing from Meagan Carter from the Polk School District seeking permission for the 2024 Reindeer Run later this year.

Following that, two items before the city need immediate votes to get some business done before month’s end.

Among those is an application pending that needs specific approval from the city commission to submit to the state. City Manager Edward Guzman explained that the city is seeking to get a Land & Water Conservation Fund grant for Turner Street Park improvements.

They’re also moving on a property purchase to get another project going in the future.

Cedar and Smoke owns a small parcel of parking lot next to their building, connected to the city’s alley-style parking between Herbert and Stubbs Street. As part of the overall parking lot project renovation being sought for the city’s future downtown plans, they city is planning to take on that small parcel from Cedar and Smoke.

An Executive Session is also planned for the session.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting at city hall set for Monday, October 28 at 6 p.m.
