Cedartown Commission to hear a request for Ring the Bell Day, MLK Day Walk and proclamation

The Cedartown City Commission will be hearing several requests today related to holidays – one coming up next week, and a couple for next month – meant to bring the community together at year’s end, and as 2021 is getting underway.

Among the items on the Commission’s agenda for the night include a request from Jannah Sorrell to promote Ring the Bell Day in Cedartown, a proclamation for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and a request to hold the annual walk down Main Street on Monday, January 18, 2021.

Those specific requests for remembrances around MLK Day come from Pamela Baker King, Executive Director of the YWTSA, and Bernard Morgan, who organizes the annual walk.

Commissioners also have a pair of public hearings prior to the start of the December session.

The first is a request from Howard Gray to allow for the property at 322 N. Main St., Cedartown to be used a church, and then a second public hearing for a request to use 110 W. Gibson St., Cedartown by Ivan Castaneda for Daniel Avila to use the property as an auto body and restoration shop.

Commissioners also have plans to approve the FY 2021 budget, committee appointments for the coming year, a beer and wine license for Saroj Poudel for 844 N. Main St. at Poudel Food Mart, and the two requests heard in the public hearing. They’ll end 2020 with their monthly reports.

Those interested in attending tonight’s meeting can join the Commission at 6 p.m. at City Hall, with social distancing guidelines in place and masks required for all those taking part.
