Cave Spring Police Officer Arrested on Drug Charges

ROME – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced in a release this evening that a Cave Spring Police Officer was arrested on multiple conspiracy charges related to heavy drugs, along with a second Floyd County man today.

Per a release from the GBI, an arrest was made against Cave Spring Police Officer Marvin James Armstrong. The 35-year-old officer is a resident of Chattooga County.

Armstrong faces charges of conspiracy to possess fentanyl, conspiracy to possess methamphetamine, conspiracy to possess Percocet and use of a communication facility during the commission of a felony.

The agency also announced in the release their arrest of Terry Lee Wheeler, age 52, of Floyd County. He’s been charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute Percocet, and use of a communication facility during the commission of a felony.

Both men were taken to the Floyd County Jail without any incident mentioned by the GBI in their release.

GBI’s announcement came with the explanation that an investigation by the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office (WMRDEO) that they were involved in “multiple drug transactions in Rome and surrounding areas.”

“The joint investigation included the Rome Floyd Metro Task Force, Atlanta-Carolinas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Initiative (HIDTA), Rome Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and the Georgia State Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit,” the release also noted.

Bond has not yet been set for either Armstrong or Wheeler on the multiple felony charges.
