The newest Aragon City Council member was sworn in for duty on Tuesday, replacing another member who left after moving out of the city limits.
Donald E. Canada Jr. took the oath of office on Tuesday, administered by Municipal Court Judge Terry Wheeler in a special ceremony ahead of the upcoming October council meeting. His son Julius, 11, held the Bible for his father while Canada took the oath of office.
Canada, who was the only candidate to qualify in the city council’s special election that was set for November, replaces former council member Buddy Tanner, who resigned ahead of his move out of the city back in August and triggering the need for a vote to fill the remainder of the time in his seat.
Aragon voters will still go to the polls this year to fill two council seats between three candidates, and to decide on alcohol referendums.
