Browning named District Attorney of the Year at annual Jekyll Island conference

Editor’s note: This story was updated with an additional comment from DA Jack Browning.

The Tallapoosa Circuit has needed some good news to come out in recent days, and they got it in the form of an award for our local prosecutor.

Tallapoosa Circuit DA Jack Browning was named District Attorney of the Year of Georgia during the 2022 conference for the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia held in recent days. The annual conference was held on Jekyll Island, and featured 49 other prosecutors from around the state gathering to discuss their work.

He posted the following on Facebook with photos from the announcement of the award:

“Other than the news that I was going to be a daddy, today was the most humbling, surprising experience of my life. Thank you to everyone who was involved in my being named DISTRICT ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR FOR THE STATE OF GEORGIA! That there are only 50 us, and that group are among the greatest attorneys and public servants I’ve ever met, I’m so humbled to be recognized by them today. But, it’s the people I work with everyday whose names should be on that plaque … they’re the people who deserve the credit.”

He added this morning:

“It was a humbling honor to have been nominated and selected by the other 49 elected District Attorneys across the State of Georgia for this award. These are people whom I consider to be some of the best attorneys and public servants in Georgia, so this was such honor. But, this award really belongs to the people whom I have the privilege of working along side of everyday — the people who work in the Polk and Haralson County District Attorneys Office. They are the ones who have helped me be District Attorney that I have aspired to be. Simply put, they are the best and they are the people who work tirelessly to serve the people of our communities everyday. So, while I am grateful for this award, I share my receiving it with my awesome staff.”

Browning was elected to office in 2012 and began to serve as District Attorney for the Tallapoosa Circuit in 2013. He has since been re-elected twice to the office.

It is the first time Browning has been honored by the PACGA. The conference kicked off on Sunday and continues through Wednesday.
