Bridge work finally starting on North Main Street

The cones have gone up along North Main Street as a long awaited project finally gets going in Cedartown.

Georgia DOT has partially blocked off the bridge in the northbound lane in recent days, getting prepared to begin work on replacing the bridge over the creek running over ultimately emptying out in Cedar Creek.

City officials have been waiting for most of the year for the project to begin, approving new four way stops on North College Street, resetting the speed limit on the roadway as plans ultimately include shutting down the roadway while the bridge work is underway.

Those who want to avoid construction issues should go ahead and begin using the detour from either West Girard Avenue over to North College Street or turning early and getting on via Jule Peek Avenue, and then using East Avenue, Fairmount Street or Queen Street to get back onto North Main Street.
