Update:
A Cedartown Police officer sustained only minor injuries when struck by a four-wheeler ridden by a suspect, who is now at Floyd Medical Center undergoing treatment according to Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd.
Per Dodd, police are still releasing no names at this time and Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials are on-scene investigating both the officer-involved shooting and the aggravated assault against an officer during an incident in the area around South Lewis Road tonight.
Police initially made contact with the suspect when they spotted him on Highway 278 and, according to Dodd sought to stop him when he fled from the area around The Country Store.
Officers from both Cedartown Police and Polk County Police eventually cornered him on Cedar Oak Way, and when he tried to get away a second time on the four-wheeler the suspect ran over the Cedartown Police officer.
Both a Polk County Police and the officer struck by the four-wheeler shot at the suspect, and at least one round struck him before he got away.
The area was cordoned off, police began a manhunt and first found the four wheeler with traces of blood on it, then tracked down the suspect to an outbuilding at a South Lewis Road residence.
“Officers made entry and found the suspect bleeding, and because we had EMS in the area already we were able to provide him with immediate help,” Dodd said.
