Police Chief Kenny Dodd reported that Blackmon was hiding at a Horsely Mill Road address in Carroll County owned by his father, and had setup a makeshift camp behind the house in the woods.
When his phone gave away his location, Dodd said the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service went out to the property, utilized a drone with a FLIR camera to find him in the woods, and then took him into custody without further incident.
A firearm was found in the area where Blackmon was hiding, but he did not have it on him at the time of the arrest.
Dodd added that police believe he had not been hiding out in Carroll County over the past 8 days since he went on the run from law enforcement facing a murder warrant for the shooting death of his wife. However, police aren’t yet sure how long he was there.
He remained in Carroll County custody at this time, but is expected to be brought back to Polk County sometime today.
