Board of Elections suspends Beck with pay for 10 days

An investigation into Beck’s arrest to be completed

The Polk County Board of Elections have decided that Director Noah Beck will be sidelined for the next 10 days with pay until there’s a chance to determine what happened with his arrest over the weekend.

Beck, hired last year to take over the countywide Elections office and was sworn in last summer, faces several charges in Floyd County after his arrest over the weekend early on Saturday morning during a traffic stop. Those charges included driving under the influence, failing to maintain lane, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and drugs not in original container.

Police found a bag with nine Adderall within Beck’s center console when he was taken into custody by Rome Police on May 20.

In response to the incident, the Board of Elections gathered for a special called session today that immediately went into an executive session for personnel reasons.

The result of that meeting was the announcement this afternoon that Beck is being suspended for 10 days pending the completion of a county investigation into the matter.

No additional decisions about Beck’s employment as Elections Director will be made until that investigation is completed.

He’ll continue to receive pay while on suspension, which follows the county policy on such incidents and subsequent investigations.
