Aragon Municipal Court to remain closed through the month of September

Anyone who has been summoned to appear in the City of Aragon’s Municipal Court will have their case postponed for the month, and the court is likely to be back to business in October according to Judge Terry Wheeler.

Wheeler said letters went out this week informing those with a court date – anyone facing traffic violations within the city limits or other charges from the Aragon Police that are not automatically referred to the Superior Court – will have their case postponed for the entire month. He said it is a safety measure to ensure those who are required to appear before the city bench will be safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“I appreciate the patience and understanding of those who are called upon to appear before the Aragon Municipal Court that we want to make sure those who are attending remain safe and healthy,” Wheeler said. “I want everyone to know that this precautionary measure being taken just until everyone can be sure that there is no risk in showing up for court, and that I hope that business can be conducted quickly after this break.”

He added that his court is monitoring and reevaluating the situation each day as the month goes along.

COVID-19 has forced the closure of local courts in many aspects of their work since March, when pandemic lock downs began across the country due to the spread of the virus.

Additional updates about when the Aragon Municipal Court will be back in business will be forthcoming.
