Update 12/8/24:
Family members reached out this afternoon to share plans for a service to honor Aragon City Council member Donnie Canada.
Canada, who passed on Saturday after an unexpected illness, will be honored in Rome coming up next week. Services are planned for December 18 at 2 p.m. at the Oaknoll Funeral Home on Shorter Avenue.

Aragon City Council member Donnie Canada, who was in his latest term in office following last year’s election, passed away suddenly today.
Canada, who had suffered from a health emergency on Friday, leaves behind a wife and several children. He had been a resident of Aragon since 2014.
He had just been re-elected to a new term in office in Aragon City elections in 2023, beginning his first full term on the council after serving for two years prior.
He spent more than 40 years in public safety, with nine years of experience as an EMT and later becoming a police officer with 30 years spent in various departments including the Rome Police, Polk County Police, Rockmart Police and the Austell Police Department.
Mayor Judd Fee said he was saddened by Canada’s passing and said on behalf of the city that today they mourn the loss of friend and public servant, and wish for the community to send their thoughts and prayers toward Canada’s family and friends at this time.
