Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Walk coming up on Jan. 17

The community is welcome to gather and take part in the upcoming 17th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Walk, which is being held on January 17 in downtown Cedartown on Main Street.

Co-founder and Board of Education member Bernard Morgan came before the Cedartown City Commission back in December seeking permission to hold the annual walk on MLK Day, and told the board that he and his wife Letitia started the event some 17 years ago in honor of Dr. King’s legacy.

“We do the walk every year to keep the dream alive,” he said.

The annual event is starting at 1 p.m. and will begin with the walk from the corner of Rock and Thompson Streets to Hollway Park in front of Polk County Courthouse No. 2 for the celebration afterward.

This year’s keynote speaker is 14th District Congressional candidate Marcus Flowers.

The annual event is being hosted this year by Cedar Springs Baptist Church, where James G. Wright is pastor.

“We pick a church to host every year,” he explained to the board, giving organizations the opportunity to take part.

“This year’s theme is ‘why we can’t wait,’” Morgan said. “I’d like to invite all community citizens here in Polk County.”

Those interested in more information can call the Morgans at 678-232-7675 or 770-546-0725.
