Airport Loop Road is going to be closed on Monday for motorists as work around Polk County’s airport continues.
This time around, Airport Manager Chuck Beavers reports the road closure is due to repairs being conducted on the roadway itself.
“The closure will be in effect for only as long as the repairs take,” Beavers reported. “However, the road will be impassable during the repairs.”
He apologized to residents and drivers impacted by the closure for the inconvenience, but noted that the repairs are required.
It comes following more than a year of closure of the roadway to motorists except for those with homes around the airport as the runway extension project has been underway over the past months.
The roadway officially re-opened to drivers back in March.
The multi-million dollar project to extend Cornelius Moore Field out to 5,000 feet to be able to handle small private jets and other aircraft which need extended runway length to take off and land is being funded mostly by the state Department of Transportation as one of a group of 11 which former Governor Nathan Deal sought to have increased runway length during his final year in office.
Check back for updates on the project as they become available.
