Cedartown Development Authority approves negotiations to sell York Property to Arizona-based Solarcycle
A real estate deal underway with a Texas-based company is set to be one of the biggest new facilities in Polk County.
The Cedartown Development Authority voted unanimously to approve to the process to begin the sale of the York Property – all 262 acres – for a price of $5.2 million on Thursday morning in a special called session at city hall. They met in executive session to hear about the final details of the potential sale before voting in an open session to approve the deal going forward.
Solarcycle will be bringing their technology to recycle solar panels and manufacture new glass will be coming to Cedartown and they plan to open a 1.3 million square-foot facility by early 2026.
Originally started in Odessa, Texas when their facility opened in 2022 by co-founders Suvi Sharma, Dr. Pablo Riberio Dias and Jesse Simons, the company recently opened a global headquarters in Mesa, Arizona along with a research lab. They utilize a propriety process to delaminate old solar panels and reclaim what they report is 95% of the materials inside to reuse.
The company also plans to produce new glass at the future Cedartown plant.
Solarcycle will look to hire 600 new employees in their latest expansion, and make $344.5 million investment once the facility is up and running.
The Cedartown Development Authority will have to meet again in the coming months to sign the final paperwork for the project.
Construction is set to begin no later than the start of 2025, but there will be regulatory requirements to tackle prior to the start of building on the new industrial facility.
The CDA’s deal did come with some standard state tax incentives.

We will keep working to secure our power supply through exciting projects like this one.”
SOLARCYCLE currently operates two solar panel recycling facilities in the U.S., and the company’s advanced recycling technology allows it to extract up to 95% of the value from used solar panels. SOLARCYCLE’s new facility in Georgia will position the company as one of the first manufacturers of specialized glass for crystalline-silicon (c-Si) photovoltaics in the U.S., with the capacity to make five to six gigawatts worth of solar glass every year. The glass will be sold directly back to the domestic solar manufacturers and fill a critical gap in the country’s supply chain to build more solar panels in America.

SOLARCYCLE will construct a new manufacturing facility located at Cedartown North Business Park, a Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) certified site in Cedartown. The plant, which will be the first of SOLARCYCLE’s facilities to manufacture glass in addition to recycling solar panels, is scheduled to begin construction in 2024 and will be operational in 2026. SOLARCYCLE will create full-time jobs in manufacturing, engineering, management, research and design, and support staff.
