A Paulding County Sherriff’s Office Detective was recently part of a look back at the tragic death of a Cobb County man who was later discovered in Paulding, and the story behind those who took his life.

Lt. Mike Hill with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office was among several – including the family members of Howard Sewell – who shared their accounts of Sewell’s life and the investigation that ultimately ended with the capture, trial and conviction of his killers.

Recently, one of our very own Detectives was featured in the Oxygen Network’s True Crime series Snapped: Killer Couples. Lieutenant Mike Hill, of the Criminal Investigations Division at the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, assisted Detective Mike Selleck, who at the time of the murder worked with the Marietta, Georgia Police Department, on this case. Now, Detective Selleck is a Sergeant for the Dallas Police Department in Paulding County. They were also assisted by Agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

In addition, the investigation was supplemented by Assistant District Attorney Jesse Evans, who at the time of the incident worked at the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office. Now, Evans is the Chief Assistant District Attorney and works for the Paulding District Attorney’s Office.

As the result of a tremendous amount of teamwork, combined with some excellent interagency cooperation, Detectives and Agents were able to make three arrests in the murder of Howard Sewell. The murder occurred within the City of Marietta and the body was dumped in Paulding County. Detectives and Agents were glad to be able to catch the killers in this case in order to give closure to the Sewell family.
