Derek Hurst, age 59, of Hiram, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 following a brief illness.

He was born on July 23, 1965 the son of the late Ernest and Nina Kinsey Hurst.

Derek was a self-employed truck driver. He attended Victory Baptist Church in Rockmart.

Derek will be remembered as a beloved husband and dedicated family man. Derek was known for his incredible passion for life, especially his love for drag racing and golf, where he excelled and found great joy. Derek will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, as well as his deep faith in the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His kindness, hard work, and loving spirit have left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Derek is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sherry Alexander Hurst; his beloved daughter, Abigail Hurst; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Danny & Barbara Hurst and David & Dasha Hurst; his sisters-in-law, Tammy & Doyle Casteel, Kim & Bobby Powell, and Gail & Kenny Jackson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Sunday, May 18, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Derek’s funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 19, 2025 at 11:00 am from Cochran Ridge Baptist Church, 2083 Cochran Ridge Road, Hiram, Georgia, with Brother Barry Snapp and Brother Lee Ridings officiating. Blake Hurst will render the music.

Derek will be placed in the church at 10:00 am.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Brother Doyle Casteel officiating. Ryan Hurst, Kenny Jackson, Bobby Powell, Brandon Casteel, Craig Powell, and Steve Gray will serve as Pallbearers.
