UPDATE: Crowdstrike outage impacting County systems, Wellstar Paulding

City of Hiram reports minor issues with GCIC connection

UPDATE:

Wellstar Paulding and the State of Georgia are among those being impacted by the Crowdstrike outage today, according to Associated Press reports and anecdotal information.

The AP reported that the Department of Driver Services at 60 local offices statewide are experiencing technical difficulties due to the global outage caused by an update to Crowdstrike security software on Windows-based systems.

Additionally, per an anecdotal post on Facebook this morning, Wellstar Paulding Medical Center is also experiencing issues with their systems. They have not specifically posted on their Facebook as of this update any particular information to the public.

A global software outage impacting all kinds of systems is taking a toll on the local level as well.

Officials from Paulding County are reporting that have been disruptions caused to county networks and email systems following issues caused by an update to security software provided by Crowdstrike on Microsoft Windows-based systems.

The City of Hiram – in a potentially unrelated issue – have also reported some issues in connecting to the Georgia Crime Information Center network for local police as well.

UPDATE: The City of Dallas is also experiencing issues due to the outage. Currently they are unable to conduct regular business while awaiting a fix to the issue.

Many other companies around the globe ranging from banking to airlines and more in between are being impacted by the Crowdstrike outage. Planes have been grounded in the meantime, and officials have been working overnight to get access back to customers at banks around the world (during their daytime working hours in nations like India, where their banking sector took a big hit from the outage.)

Those with travel plans should reconsider their trip to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta for the time being, as a majority of the flights are marked as ‘late’ or ‘very late’ by Flightview.com.

The Federal Aviation Administration put the current late times at 1 hour and 10 minutes due to the interruption caused by the outage.

Among the other interruptions caused by the outage were with 911 centers around the nation. Issues were reported in Alaska, New Hampshire, Iowa and Virginia with receiving emergency calls.

Media around the globe is reporting that the outage was caused by a faulty update to the Crowdstrike software that impacts computers running Microsoft Windows. The company is working on an update and hopes to have a fix in place soon. Airlines, banks, media companies and governments have all reported issues overnight due to the outage.
