Ms. Joyce Libby Ellis, age 90, of Smyrna, GA passed away on May 3, 2025.
She was born April 29, 1935, in Hartford, Maine to the late Wilbur and Nellie Barrett Libby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Bruce Ellis, and Brenda Lowe; sister, Geneva Kime and son in law, Christopher Waters.
She grew up on the family farm in Maine, graduated from Business College and raised four wonderful children. After being the best homemaker, she was also the favored substitute teacher. All the kids wanted her to go on all the field trips and she did. She took “shop till you drop” literally. Even after working all day, she would outlast everyone who would have to sit and wait while she shopped till the stores closed.
Her favorite hobby was loving her family. She loved spending time with all of them. Rainy days were the best! They knew a rainy day meant homemade chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate would be ready and waiting for her children to get home from school. Her love for sweets was unmatched and she will be remembered even by her youngest great-grandchildren for her love of not just chocolate but the finest chocolates.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Waters, of Smyrna; son and daughter in law, Craig and Denise Ellis, of Tallapoosa; son in law, Ricky Lowe, of Denver, NC; grandchildren, Christina Ellis, Brittney and Jaeson Smith, James and Beverly Lowe, Kyle and Brittany Lowe, and Alyssa and Kyle Baker; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held in Hillcrest Garden Cemetery in Mount Holly, NC on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the First Baptist Church Tallapoosa, 11 W Lyon St., Tallapoosa, GA 30176, Youth Ministry or Light of Hope Presbyterian Church, 1507 Hurt Rd. SW, Marietta, GA 30008, Care and Compassion Ministry.
