The Haralson County Sheriffs Office was busy over the weekend keeping drivers safe with the latest round of safety checkpoints conducted in conjunction with several agencies around the area, which resulted in multiple arrests.
HCSO officials cited 18 arrests during the multiple checkpoint operation, which also included the seizure of drugs and weapons from around Haralson County proper.
From the HCSO Facebook Page:
On Friday, August 27, 2021, the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Georgia State Patrol for Operation Overwatch. The other agencies involved in this Operation were the Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force, Haralson County 911 and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
Operation Overwatch consisted of 47 officers conducting checkpoints simultaneously across the entire county to apprehend drunk drivers, drugs and other violations. There were 13 checkpoints throughout the county including Highway 100 N (zone 1), Felton Rockmart Road (zone 2), Pine Grove Road (zone 3) and Highway 113 (zone 4). The results of Operation Overwatch included 18 arrests, six of those felonies.
The arrests included 10 DUI arrests, two drug arrests and one methamphetamine trafficking arrest and the seizure of five guns and money. There were also 36 citations and 24 warnings issued.
We would like to thank the Georgia State Patrol for working with us to make this possible and each of the agencies that participated in this Operation. We would also like to thank Chad Smith, owner/operator of Thriftown Grocery in Bremen for donating pizzas for the meal and Lee Smith of Lee Moore Appliance in Bremen for donating the drinks for the officers in “Operation Overwatch”.
“These proactive Operations continue to see success as we make the roadways safer for our citizens. In the past two years, Haralson County has had 13 traffic collision deaths each year. We have worked diligently to be more proactive and visible to get those numbers down and we have only had one traffic collision death this year which is a marked improvement. Arresting drunk or drug-impaired drivers and catching those trafficking drugs into our county are very important steps in making this county safer and healthier for us all.”, states Sheriff Stacy Williams.
