The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday announced the arrest of three people on drugs and weapons charges after they were found with methamphetamine in plain view while officers were at a Tallapoosa residence seeking a wanted suspect.
According to a Facebook posting from the agency, they arrested Gregory Payne, Heather Carey and Daffanie Smith on multiple drug charges during the incident that occurred on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, Deputies went to a residence on Providence Spur in Tallapoosa to serve a warrant. When Deputies arrived on scene, consent was given to the deputies to enter and search the home for the wanted person.
During this search, two people were found hiding, one of which had an active warrant. While searching for the wanted person, methamphetamine was located in plain view. This turned the warrant service into a drug investigation during which a total of 1.5 ounces of methamphetamines, six ounces marijuana, other drugs and a stolen firearm were located and taken into evidence.
Gregory Payne was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Schedule lV Controlled Substance, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm), Possession of Firearm during Commission of a Crime and Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.
Heather Carey and Daffanie Smith were arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule lV Controlled Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana Less than an Ounce.
Sheriff Stacy Williams states, “We never know what the situation is that we are walking into, no call is routine. This simple warrant service got drugs, a stolen firearm and criminals off of the street.”.
