Carolyn Delores Messer

Carolyn Delores Messer, age 81 of Smyrna, peacefully entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, on January 16, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Samuel McHone and the late Mildred Pauline Morris McHone.  In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Felton Hubert Messer, Jr,  a son, Phil Messer, and a brother, Jimmy McHone.

A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Carolyn taught a children’s Sunday School Class for many years at her home church True Gospel Baptist Church. Sharing the Gospel was her passion and she wanted to make sure that everyone knew about the love of Jesus, especially her grandchildren.

Carolyn was also a supporter of our US Veterans.  She was a talented pianist, and even through her dementia, she could play her favorite songs.  Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren put a sparkle in her eyes.  Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memories are her children: Kimberly (Bill) West of Roopville, Kelly Scoggins of Carrollton, and Glenn Messer of Smyrna; her precious grandchildren: Ashley (Clint) West Brown, Jessica (Ryan) West Harris, Joshua West, Kayla (Adam) Messer Cooper, Andrew (Cheyenne) Scoggins, and Emily Scoggins; and great-grandchildren: Tucker Brown, Addy Brown, Hunter Lanier, JoAnna West-Jones, Paislee West, Trent Cooper, Lily Cooper, Palmer Singletary, Harleigh Scoggins, Baker Scoggins, and Nellie Muller.   Also surviving are her siblings, Mildred McHone, Sammy (Dorothy) McHone, R.J. (Hilda) McHone, and Bruce McHone; a host of nieces and nephews and extended loved ones.

The family will host a memorial service on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, 863 Little New York Road, Whitesburg, GA 30185.

Floral tributes should be delivered to Grace Baptist Church on Saturday before 12 Noon.

Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is honored to serve the cremation needs of the Messer family.
