Bremen man saved from drowning after boat capsizes earlier today

Deputies from the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office saved a grandfather from drowning after his boat capsized during a fishing trip west of Bremen today, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Greg Calvin King of Bremen was out with his grandson on a fishing trip on West Lake near the intersection of Old Bush Mill Road and Asa Cash Road on Monday when the boat capsized. Dispatchers received a call and sent deputies out to the scene who found King and pulled him the rest of the way out of the water.

They immediately began to work on King and an ambulance was called to the scene and transported him to the hospital.

Deputies got additional details from King’s grandson who told officers that a fishing line was caught in a tree and in an attempt to get it out of the branches, he jerked the line too hard and fell backwards, causing their boat to capsize.

Per the release, King’s grandson pulled him to shore and called for his father to help.

Sheriff Stacy Williams praised King’s grandson and emergency personnel for their swift response to save King.

“First, I would like to commend the bravery of this young man that fought to get his grandfather to the edge of the water,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “Second, I would like to thank the E-911 Dispatchers, the Haralson County Fire Department, Ambucare, the Georgia State Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Bremen Police Department for assisting us today. I am proud of the work that multiple agencies and departments did together on this rescue. I ask that you keep Mr. King and his family in your prayers.”

HCSO noted the case remains “under investigation” and no further details were available at this time.
