CHANGELOG: Myrick Multimedia 2.0.8.5

The Gradient Box design update was wrapped up for the front page of Today News Wire as part of the overall Today Network design language, and work on the Myrick Multimedia video page began as part of the latest Changelog update for Myrick Multimedia’s march toward 2.0.9.

This one was specifically focused on getting the updates completed for the front of Today News Wire. It’ll still require some small tweaks.

Additionally, I began working on Kevin the Editor’s front page boxes with the 2.0.8.5 update. It needed the most work of all the sites on its front since it was lacking in both content and functionality. With this update, I believe the Kevin the Editor front is now much easier to navigate (I hope) on both desktop and mobile, and that content is easier to find and is being shared between other sites.

I’ll be moving onto Haralson Today, Paulding Today and Polk Today for the 2.0.8.6-8 updates.

Today Sports Wire will be last in the line to update the design, since I have more boxes to design for each school and decisions to make about what to place where. I might not rely as heavily on the gradient box design. I haven’t decided yet.

Design updates

Here is the full list of updates to the Today News Wire front page:

The Area News box was updated to the gradient box design.

The Haralson County, Paulding County and Polk County designs were incorporated into a single box featuring various items, and news related to specific cities in the three counties.

The Finance Box got an update and fixed the issue with frames being inserted, and included network post links to specific business-related content from Haralson, Paulding and Polk Today sites.

State and Southeast News Items have now been bundled into a box together meant as a white space breaker between National and other news items.

National was updated to removed the drop shadow and rounded corners.

World was updated to the Gradient Box design.

The Featured box was updated to include the a single weather item.

The Weather box was removed from the main front of Today News Wire.

The TSW Box was updated to included the scoreboard_topline used by Polk Today currently, the available stories changed and the biggest boy ad switched out for the block ad to provide additional space. Remains a white space box.

Press Release box was updated to fix an issue with the story displays, also removed the rounded corner and drop shadow to conform with white space items.

Entertainment box was updated to the gradient box design, includes Culture items from Haralson, Paulding and Polk, plus a biz card ad.

Technology box was updated to the gradient box design, includes additional items (for now) and an block ad.

The Health Box was updated to the gradient box design.

Kevin the Editor (KtE) was updated with the following boxes fixed:

The front top featured box was moved down, the initial “about me” was moved to the top and the rounded corners and drop shadow removed. The login box was moved into the top, and a box for “podcast” which will be returning shortly to Kevin the Editor was added as well.

The short story box was changed to the gradient box type on KtE.

The essay box was changed to the gradient box type on KtE.

A new “other sites content” box was added to KtE.

A new “photo/games/other” gradient box was added to KtE.

Unrelated additional updates:

Started working on a Subscriber Video page for a main “hub” on Myrickmultimedia.com, creating 2 boxes: Video Page Top and Video Row 2. These will still need some tailoring for updating purposes.

Added Video Page Top to the Myrickmultimedia.com front.

Fixed a box featuring items from Myrickmultimedia.com that are being shared for free or are meant to be helpful to subscribers. This includes access to the Changelog series, and will get updated again in the near future with a larger feature box above, and keeping the row of 3 items currently in place with the white background.

Bug updates

A bug created by me that I fixed this evening included Google Adsense code inside of posts that weren’t supposed to be on designated sites. Hoping that this solves the issue by breaking the code? Might have to do some other work on this one… We’ll see.

I’ve still got to work on the shortcode updates for scoreboards and some of the events and listings issues I’ve found going on. I’ll be returning to ChatGPT this coming week to work on those as well.

Add-on

First time I’ve ADDED a plugin in a while, but this one is ultimately needed. Since I am running a multisite setup for Myrick Multimedia with WordPress, I can’t add an ads.txt file to each individual site. Fortunately, someone did come up with a plugin to manage those site-by-site that can be implemented on multisite, so I’ve installed that and made that correction. This applied to Polk Today, Paulding Today and Today News Wire only for the time being.
