CHANGELOG: Myrick Multimedia 2.0.7

We aren’t quite out of beta just yet, as there are still more things I want to work on fixing up in the near future design wise that will continue to add navigational functionality, reading enjoyment and more for all the sites in the Myrick Multimedia network.

However, we got far enough along on some new features of the site and fixes to jump another full point release in this “beta” mode of the new site architecture.

Here’s some items that have been fixed or added since the last update:

Redesigned featured area for the top of sites

Each site now has a “mobile” and “desktop” focused front page designs at the top, with a combination of featured items (think a newspaper’s front page story above the fold,) latest headlines from local news coverage, and the latest “free” item – a new category specifically providing coverage that is available for everyone to read outside of being required to have a subscription. Free items will typically focus on specific business-related or advertiser-related coverage, items that are previewing coverage for events that are free to attend, and specific coverage that by necessity requires everyone’s attention as far reaching as possible. All the sites – including Kevin the Editor, Today News Wire and Today Sports Wire – will include a “free” category going forward.

The new top featured area has both a mobile-focused design and a desktop-only design, which will become the standard for design choices moving forward for each category box, etc. The hope is that it will make the site easier to read and hopefully fix some of the issues caused by automatic ad injection from Google. They are currently available now on Haralson, Paulding, Polk and Today Sports Wire. Additional shifts for Today News Wire and Kevin the Editor will be forthcoming in the 2.0.7.1 update.

The site network will ultimately shift from a “universal” box design after looking at how the site renders on various devices I’ve been able to access (even an iPhone briefly) and found that having various options for each device type will ultimately benefit the overall experience of users in the long run. Box design changes will be finished through the rest of the month of August. Probably going to lose the rounded corner look in the process.

The next major update for navigation immediately will be a consolidated design for mobile-desktop combined to ensure that it is easier to reach certain pages on a site-by-site basis. Those will be implemented over the weekend. That will push the site to a 2.0.7.1 update I’ll report about next week.

Today Sports Wire Relaunched!

Tswnewsmall2025web

That’s right, sports fans! It is time for fall sports again, and after shifting to a more consolidated sports site to cover multiple schools, Today Sports Wire is officially back! Alongside undertaking some of the top design changes, TSW has a better logo design (thankfully) and a front that will change by the season. Upcoming games schedules and scoreboards, the new subscriber-only Pick’em system that will be available to participate in with a Monthly+ subscription, and our first sports-focused game: TSW Sports Trivia! (It is also for subscribers as well as it is still in beta form.)

The refreshed site will continue to get some additional design updates over the coming weeks alongside the rest of the network of sites for front page boxes and individual school and category pages (I’ve got an interesting idea for category pages/locality-based pages) that will be available in the coming weeks as well as the box designs begin to change.

Look for additional schedule updates throughout the upcoming weeks as well for Volleyball, Competition Cheerleading, and adding College and NFL football games as well for the Pick’em system.

The first week of picks WILL BE DUE by Wednesday, August 13! (At the moment, that may change as code updates are completed for various reasons.)

More will be coming over the next week about football filming schedules as well, so stay tuned sports fans!
