Myrick Multimedia has several different ad placements where the six types of ads are available to see, all with rotations based on the sizes and space available. These fall into two groups: regular and front placement, and are priced accordingly.

Here’s a quick primer on placements and rotations:

Placements

Each ad is placed according to type and size, based on whether it is a post or page, or whether it the front page of Haralson Today, Polk Today, Paulding Today, Today News Wire and Today Sports Wire. These placements are selected to be accommodate the design for both mobile and desktop users of the site.

A “regular” placement for a rotation are groups of advertisements based on their specific size to be placed on posts and pages, on desktop sidebars and under stories with “related content” for mobile.

Here’s an example of a regular placement with the universal mobile grouping:

A “front page” placement includes regular placement grouping, but also a grouping that is specific to the front pages of each of the Today sites (excluding Kevin the Editor, which only has a single front page banner placement available on the front of the site and posts and pages.)

Here’s an example of a front page placement with the biggest boy grouping:

Those who are unsure which grouping they should choose for the ad should remember this adage: front page appears across the site, regular is meant for just posts.

Two additional placements of note: the Desktop-only postings which includes just blocks and skyscrapers, and the universal mobile placement, which shows all ads in the middle of stories for mobile-only users.

Both of these come with a “second chance” to be seen option after a certain number of paragraphs for an item are reached.

When ads are being reviewed for approval for Myrick Multimedia’s Today sites, front page ads are included in regular groups and the universal mobile placement group without any additional cost.

Rotation

What exactly do I mean by “rotation?”

The easiest way to explain it is with dice rolls. When purchasing an ad from Myrick Multimedia, advertisements are placed in a “group” determined by size. Just for the sake of this example, assume that you have a pair of dice and each ad size represents a number created by the dice – 1 through 12, for standard six-sided dice.

Each time you roll the dice, the number that comes up from the result corresponds to the ad that is in the system to be shown, and is displayed to the user coming to a Today site to read content. This happens hundreds of thousands of times a day as a user navigates through the site, or leaves to go elsewhere to read and a new one shows up.

In actual reality, the ad system is acting as the “shooter” of the dice representing your ads, and for each user that comes in gives your ad a chance to be displayed in one of the multiple spots available on the system. It might give your ad three spots on the page, or just one, or none.

The “rotation” system provides a level of fairness for each advertiser that makes a purchase during the amount of time it is available and avoids issues where one ad or the other is getting more attention than it should, or provides a chance in the universal mobile placement for each ad to compete without regard to grouping or payment for specific space.

So what if you want your ad to just be shown to everyone in one spot, just like the newspaper does?

Sponsorships are available for Today site advertising – including the purchase of design space that can’t be hindered by ad blockers and is still included in regular and front page rotation spots even after claiming a specific ad spot.
