A Polk County Sheriff’s Sergeant who remains in the hospital is still stable, but he remains on a ventilator following more than a month in the hospital.
Chief Deputy Jonathan Blackmon with the Sheriff’s Office reported that Sgt. Barry Henderson remains in the ICU at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, and he is still on a ventilator. It has been 39 days since he entered the hospital, and 37 days since he was placed on a ventilator.
Blackmon, who has been in regular communication with his wife, said that she continues to ask for prayers from the community.
He added that it is hoped he’ll be able to slowly come out of sedation and follow commands with the hopes Henderson will continue to improve and recover.
Henderson is just one of many victims of COVID-19 who have been hospitalized for the virus, but his story has been featured on WSB-TV, his wife pleading to the public for medical officials at Northside Hospital to try additional treatment. His use of the ventilator has slowly decreased in recent weeks, but he is still reliant on it to breathe.
It’ll likely be some time before Henderson is back to full health.
In the meantime, another fundraiser to help Henderson and his family while he remains in the hospital is being organized for March.
Orders are being taken now for barbecue plates to be distributed on March 19 by Mosaic Place, with proceeds to benefit ‘Sgt.’

Mosaic Place Program Manager Lydia Goodson reported that she’s taking orders by text at 770-852-0101 or by calling 678-901-1445 and leave an order on the answering machine.
Walk-ins on March 19 or curbside pickup will also be available at Mosaic Place. Orders of 10 or more can be delivered.
She said the hope was to provide as much help as possible to Henderson, and the organization is seeking donations from local restaurants to help.
“The recovery community wants to give back to a wonderful man and his family who have been so good to us,” she said.
