
A Cedartown-area man was jailed after his vehicle ended up halfway off of Antioch Road late at night on Friday, and he was found drunk behind the wheel with children in the backseat.
According to Polk County Police, they arrested Carlos Lopez, 29, on multiple misdemeanor charges after officers were called out to Antioch Road on for a reckless driver call.
Police found Lopez halfway off the road, hazard lights on in a blue Chevrolet Cobalt with two juveniles in the backseat, with a car seat incorrectly installed.
Lopez seemed to be impaired and officers asked him out of the car and found his pants unbuttoned and unzipped, and when asked about how much he consumed he signaled to officers despite a language barrier he had two beers.
Police found two open containers in the vehicle as well, both cold to the touch.
Lopez gave a breath sample, but police did not provide how much his blood alcohol was in their report.
Police were able to get another individual out to take the children and the vehicle away, and Lopez was taken into custody without further incident.
He was charged with misdemeanors for a child seatbelt violation, an open container violation, driving without a valid license and a DUI. He was released on a $3,912 bond.
