Luis Duque

A man was found walking through Cedartown after he fled from a reported domestic violence incident early Sunday morning, according to Polk County Police reports.

Officers arrested Luis Duque, 24, of a Cedartown-area address after he was found walking near the intersection of MLK Boulevard and Ellawood Avenue around 3:30 a.m. and taken into custody, matching the exact description given by the victim in the incident.

Per the report, the victim alleged that Duque struck them several times in the face following an argument in the early morning hours, doing so in front of two juveniles.

The victim was not seriously injured, but showed signs of the assault providing police the physical evidence to seek out Duque and take him into custody on state warrants.

When found, Duque was cuffed and taken to the Polk County Jail without incident. Per the report, he told police “without prompting” the incident began over an argument after he added a female as a Facebook friend.

Duque was charged with misdemeanors for third degree cruelty to children, and simple battery under the Family Violence Act.

He remained in custody on the pair of charges with a $2,000 bond.
