RPD: Two jailed in RHS traffic stop for drugs, warrants

A traffic stop for no insurance on a vehicle ended with drug charges filed against a pair from Adairsville, according to Rockmart Police reports.

Officers arrested Michael Joseph Bartl, 33, and Miranda Ann McChargue, 33, both of Adairsville addresses in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 8, when they were pulled over at Cartersville Highway at Rockmart High School heading northbound when police found the vehicle had no insurance. They initially noticed the car’s taillight had tape over it.

Per the report, during the stop McChargue was behind the wheel and gave officers a false name, claiming the car was owned by her daughter and she wasn’t aware if it had insurance or not. Bartl gave police his name, and was found to have warrants out for his arrest.

Rockmart Police took him into custody without issue, but while pulling him out of the car noticed that he dropped two bags between the door and the front passenger seat. Police suspected one of the bags to be methamphetamine, and another was determined to be marijuana.

Due to the discovery of the drugs, police then pulled McChargue out of the vehicle and conducted a further search. They found additional bags of methamphetamine inside a glasses case hidden within a bag in the back seat.

Police took them both into custody without further incident on drug charges and took them onward to the Polk County Jail.

When deputies at the jail ran McChargue’s fingerprints, they found her identity and she faced further charges for giving officers a false name.

Both remained in custody with bond set on their felony and misdemeanor charges.

Bartl faces felonies for failure to appear and possession of methamphetamine, along with a misdemeanor of possession and use of drug-related objects. Bail was set at $4,000 on the charges and Bartl remained in custody as of this posting.

McChargue also remains in custody on a $6,500 bond with a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine, along with misdemeanor charges of possession and use of drug-related objects; giving false name, address, or birthdate to law enforcement officers; driving on an expired license and no insurance.
