Polk County Police knew from recent history that a Rockmart-area family would not let officers do their job without a fight, and it proved that way as they came to serve a warrant earlier this week for the father and ended up arresting two more family members in the process.
During the incident reported on Monday, February 24, officers went to the Maple Street residence of Ronald David Blackmon to serve a warrant for his arrest, and were forced to tase a man during the arrest while officers were trying to fend off family members trying to keep Blackmon from being taken into custody.
Police arrested Cody Monroe Blackmon, 33, and Joshua Alan Blackmon, 32, when the pair tried to keep officers from taking the elder Blackmon into custody. Per the report, when police arrived to find Ronald Blackmon, they found Cody Blackmon when knocking and refusing to let them inside – trying to use his weight to keep them from entering inside against the front door.
When officers were able to force their way inside, they began to struggle with Cody Blackmon while Joshua Blackmon entered the room from the kitchen. He was accompanied by a female, and due to an increasing threat against the officers one was forced to pull his taser and struck Joshua in the chest. The female – later identified as Robyn Blackmon – who was trying to help Cody was also tased when a third male entered the room and police felt they were outnumbered and could be facing real physical harm, per the report.
Police took Cody and Joshua into custody finally, and when searched Joshua was also found with a concealed .25 caliber pistol, which police confiscated due to the aggression they faced when they arrived to serve the warrant.
Officers were also able to take Ronald Colt into custody as well.
Robyn Blackmon was not arrested during the incident due to the “chaos” of the situation, per the report. The other three were taken onward to the Polk County Jail.
The trio of Blackmon men remained in custody – with all three facing charges of obstruction of law enforcement officers. Ronald David Blackmon also faces a failure to appear warrant and was being held on a $500 bond.
Joshua Blackmon was charged with two counts of obstruction during the incident and remained in jail on a $2,000 bond as of this posting. Cody Blackmon remained in custody on a single obstruction charge, also with a $2,000 bond.
The Blackmon family has a history with law enforcement, most recently in December 2024 when all four members of the family were arrested for fighting with officers during a warrant service.
