More solar panels coming to Polk

Inman Solar, Murphy Harpst Children’s Center coming to agreement for solar farm

A special use permit for a parcel owned by the Murphy Harpst Children’s Center in the Cedartown area was given a thumbs up to allow for a new solar farm to be installed on the property.

County Commissioners voted 3-1 to approve a special use permit for a 53 acre parcel off East Point Road owned by the organization as Murphy Harpst and Inman Solar have come to an agreement to install panels on a portion of the property.

Commissioner Gary Martin was the sole vote against the request for the special use change during the Tuesday night regular session for February. Commissioner Linda Liles was absent from Tuesday’s meeting, and did not participate in the vote.

The new solar panels will add to a growing number of panels already in the county operated by Inman Solar. They have fields already in Cedartown’s Northside Industrial Park, in Rockmart, in Aragon on Hwy. 101 and other locations around Polk County.

The property set to be used by Inman Solar for the new panels sits on the backside of the Murphy Harpst property, and is otherwise open fields at the moment.
