REPORT: Clerk charged with theft from convenience store, not charging for propane tank

Katie Baldwin Crawford

A Cedartown woman was booked into custody after she was caught on camera failing to make a customer pay for $200 worth of items and charged with theft from a convenience store on Prior Station Road, according to Polk County Police reports.

Katie Baldwin Crawford, 52, of a Cedartown address, was taken into custody on a misdemeanor theft by deception charge on Sunday afternoon, January 26, by Polk County Police following a complaint made by the manager of Cedartown Food Mart.

According to the report, the manager complained that Crawford had scanned items and placed them in a bag and set them aside after voiding the transaction. The incident was caught on camera, the report noted.

Crawford was also accused of giving a customer a key to the lock to change out propane tanks from the outdoor case without paying for the replacement, the report stated.

He became suspicious about a potential incident after he told officers Crawford called out for two shifts in a row.

The total cost for the merchandise taken was valued at $200.

Crawford remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting on a $1,000 bond on the single misdemeanor charge.
