A building that has sat in a near state of completion and waiting for a buyer for more than six years will finally have a company utilizing the space.
The Spec Building in the Northside Industrial Park in Cedartown finally found the perfect fit for a project, and the announcement came from Development Authority of Polk County President and CEO Terry Schwindler when the latest State of the Community Video was released this morning to the public.
Schwindler reported in the video that the 100,000 square foot facility will be split in half, with 50,000 square feet being dedicated to a new industry, known at this time as Project Shure.
“They will be investing 9.7 million into the community, and in year one they’ll have 23 full time employees,” Schwindler said in the video. “By Year 5, they’ll have 100 full time employees.”
What’s even better is the salary range for those coming into the new industry: $60,000 to $70,000 a year. She did not say whether the new industry will be recruiting locally for talent.
Plus, the new owners will be leasing out the additional 50,000 square feet of space after building out their facility.
The Spec Building, designed to be able to supply a ready-built structure with utilities in place will have some minor work to complete before the facility can be utilized for the new owner. For instance, they’ll still have to pour a concrete floor within the building.
Schwindler also talked about the Development Authority’s work with local industries after the start of the pandemic to get supplies they needed to operate and connect with each other on projects to provide PPE, like hand sanitizer. She also talked about the Development Authority’s tracking on the unemployment rate, and that it continues to go down toward the pre-Pandemic shutdown levels.
