The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs fought it out in LaGrange on Tuesday in their first trip to the Elite Eight round since 2004, but they ran out of outs against the Lady Grangers as their season came to an end in a double header on the road.
Cedartown took a 5-4 loss in the first game, and a 4-3 loss in the second game to close out the season after making it through the first two rounds of the Class AAAA playoffs with wins over Druid Hills and Flowery Branch.
The Lady Bulldogs finished their season at 21-14 (11-7 in 7-AAAA.) Tuesday’s games also marked the last time that seniors Carlie Holland, Alexas Poole, Roslyn Blankenship, Ava Allred and Reagan Peek got a chance to play with the team.
In Game 1 of the Elite Eight series, Reagan Clarke went out for six innings put up a strikeout and no walks against the Lady Grangers, but gave up nine hits and was charged with two errors. Taylor Westmoreland put up a two-run, RBI effort and Allred also had a 2 RBI round at bat, scoring a run of her own.
The second game saw Clarke go four more innings with a strikeout, three walks and six hits, and the team put up four errors during the outing. Emme Arp came in to relieve with three innings of work, and gave up a hit but also had a strikeout.
Marycille Brumby put up a 2 RBI performance with her trips to the plate, and Kaylee Nikolopoulus scored a run. Reagan Peek went 1-3 in the game, but hit a home run on the day.
