Some great news for softball fans in Polk County: the teams keep on ticking their wins off in the state playoffs in their classifications, and now are heading to the Elite Eight.
It’s the first time since 2004 the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs have made it this far in the state playoffs, and are traveling to face former region foe LaGrange for a chance to make it to the Final Four and play in Columbus for a state title this year in Class AAAA softball.
The Lady Bulldogs sit at 21-12 on the season at they face the Lady Grangers who have enjoyed a 21-9 season thus far. They start at 5 p.m. this afternoon and go into a second game in a double header 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first.
Cedartown defeated Flowery Branch in the Sweet 16 round in a two-game finish after having been knocked out by the Lady Falcons in the first round in 2019.
Rockmart meanwhile is on their way to Southeast Georgia and a matchup in their Elite Eight round at Southeast Bulloch. The Class AAA state playoff round features a 24-8 Lady Jackets who just took two of the three games they played against Sandy Creek in the second round, and knocked off Lumpkin County in the first after finishing third in the region.
South Bulloch has an 18-8 record and hosts after finishing as the top team in Region 3-AAA.
Their first pitch opens the Elite Eight round at 4:30 p.m., with Game 2 to follow after.
Both teams could face an if-necessary Game 3 on Wednesday. Check back for how they do on Wednesday.
