When voters head to the polls this fall, they’ll be choosing two more people to serve on the county commission and the Aragon City Council.
First, the two positions need candidates to go on the ballot in special elections coming up on November 3 for the District 2 seat for the County Commission, and the at-large seat for the City Council.
Qualifying begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19th and ends Friday, August 21st at 12 p.m. at the Board of Elections office at the County Administration building in Cedartown, located at 144 West Ave.
Aragon’s open council seat will only be for those within the city limit on the Nov. 3 ballot, a special election to determine who will fill the leftover time of Candace Seiz, who resigned at the beginning of July as her family moved to a new home.
A $36 fee due at the time of qualifying. All interested persons must complete required paperwork, and return to the Elections Office no later than 12 Noon on August 21st. More information regarding the requirements for holding office can be obtained from Aragon City Hall.
The other seat open or qualification is for the Polk County Commission District 2 Seat, which will be on the ballot countywide. Those interested will need to pay a $144 fee due at time of qualifying, and all interested candidates must complete required paperwork, and return to the Elections office no later than noon on August 21st.
Additional information regarding the requirements for holding office can be obtained from Polk County Elections Office. Those interested will likely be facing Commissioner Linda Liles, who was appointed to serve on the board after former Commission Chair Jennifer Hulsey resigned to run for the State House District 16 seat.
Any additional questions regarding the candidate qualifying process can be forwarded to Election Director Lee Ann George, at lgeorge@polkga.org.
