REPORT: Man charged for obstruction, traffic charge after ‘getting help’ in traffic stop

Temaj Dayquinn Hunt

A driver got out of their car ahead of officers in the early hours of Monday morning during a traffic stop, but got some help from others at an apartment complex in Cedartown amid the incident according to Polk County Police reports.

Temaj Dayquinn Hunt, 30, of a Cedartown address, was arrested on charges of failure to maintain lane and obstruction of law enforcement officers following a traffic stop at a North College Drive apartment complex on Monday, November 25 around 1 a.m.

Per the report, Hunt was spotted by officers near Cedartown Middle School on Highway 27 North failing to maintain his lane behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Outlander. The officer followed Hunt as he continued on Cherokee Road and then onto North College Drive. A couple of cars were ahead of the officer at the time, and he was spotted failing to maintain lane again.

When Hunt pulled into an apartment complex and officers turned on their lights to conduct the stop, Hunt “got out of the vehicle and began walking over to one of the cars that was following him.”

He was ordered to come over to the front of the squad car but “continuously failed to obey the lawful orders and kept telling the others in the vehicle to care of him, and to make sure he was good.”

PCPD took Hunt into custody and he began “yelling loudly” during his arrest and attempted to avoid being cuffed, per the report.

“While I was dealing with Mr. Hunt, someone on scene removed a bag from Mr. Hunt’s vehicle and took it into one of the apartments on scene,” the report added. Despite their best efforts, police could not determine who took the bag or which apartment it went into during Hunt’s arrest.

Police did note that Hunt was found with a “large sum of money” discovered in his pockets. Though officers noted putting the money into a sealed bag and sending it along to the jail with Hunt, they did not report how much cash was found on his person at the time.

Hunt remained in custody as of this posting on a $1,500 bond.
