Malakhai McKinney

Cedartown Police were able to find a teen who had run away from a residence on Spruce Street after it was alleged he threatened a pair with a handgun, but he was found along with the firearm he tried to hide according to reports.

Officers found Malakhai Aurelius McKinney, 17, of a Cedartown address, at his residence after the allegations were made and a Cedartown Police K-9 unit got involved in tracking him down.

Per the report, officers heard a verbal altercation underway when they arrived on Spruce Street early on Tuesday, November 19, and when the approached McKinney hopped a fence and fled the scene on foot.

The pair who were alleged to have been threatened by McKinney told officers he showed up a first time to complain about their noise, then returned and “brandished a handgun causing them to fear for their safety at which time they quietly dialed 911 and left the line open.”

Cedartown Police ultimately tracked McKinney back to his home. He resisted officers during their arrest, and had tossed away a Glock 19 handgun that was located in the yard prior to their arrival.

The 17-year-old remains in custody without bond set awaiting first appearance on felony and misdemeanor charges including: aggravated assault, possession of a knife or firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, obstructing law enforcement officers, first degree burglary, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a minor.

He was being held at the Polk County Jail as of this posting.
