Officials release name of fatality in collision

Georgia State Patrol reports this morning that Filiberto Macario Aguilar of Cedartown died after his 2008 Lexus IS250 was struck in a three-car wreck in front of the Det. Kristen Hearne Law Enforcement Complex this morning, according to their latest release.
The wreck that took place around 6:15 a.m. saw GSP Troopers dispatched from Cartersville to investigate after local first responders arrived on scene to find the wreckage of a 2014 Toyota Prius, a 2023 Kia Sportage and Macario Aguilar’s Lexus.
Per their preliminary investigation so far, the Prius was heading eastbound near the Highway 27 bypass in the right lane and the Kia was in left lane. When the Prius failed to maintain its lane, it went into the left lane and struck the Kia. That caused the Kia to be pushed into the left westbound lane and hit the Macario Aguilar in the Lexus.
The release stated that Macario Aguilar died of his injuries at the scene.
GSP reported the driver of the Kia was taken to Floyd Medical Center in Rome for treatment. The driver of the Toyota did not have any injuries.
The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team for GSP will be assisting in the investigation, and it remains open as of this posting.
Update 11 a.m.:
The Polk County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who died as a result of injuries sustained in multiple vehicle wreck in front of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Next of kin was notified this morning that Filiberto Macario Aguilar of a Cedartown address died of the injuries sustained in the wreck.
Officials have not yet released any further details about the wreck.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.

More information will be forthcoming, but local police officials this morning report that a wreck involving multiple vehicles in front of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office took the life of one of the individuals involved.
Cedartown Police have not yet been able to provide further details about this morning’s fatality or provide a full count as of this posting on how many vehicles were involved.
Georgia State Patrol has been called out to take over the investigation since it involves a fatality.
No information about traffic shutdowns was also available at this time, but expect the need to detour around the area for the time being
