The Cedartown Bulldogs and Rockmart Yellow Jackets wrestling squads are pushing ahead on positive 2021-22 seasons this winter, and both are statebound after wins last week and over the weekend.
On Friday, Cedartown got the pins they needed to make it to their Class Elite Eight championship, coming up in LaGrange this Saturday, January 22. The Bulldogs took wins over Luella and Thomas County Central to get into the final round this weekend. They’ll face teams from West Laurens, Jefferson, Bainbridge, Marist, Hampton, Columbus and Heritage-Catoosa.
In Class AAA, the Jackets are seeking to go back-to-back after they earned a state title in the duals during the 2021 season. Rockmart punched their ticket with wins on Saturday over Jackson and Franklin County, and with a 40-1 record look like they’ll have a good chance of repeating.
The Jackets travel to Stephens County High for the title matches this coming Saturday, and have real competition to face this weekend.
Rockmart faces four other teams out of the eight in Region 6-AAA this year in the Elite Eight. Those include Adairsville, Sonoraville, North Murray, and Murray County. Rounding out the competition is Oconee County, Gilmer and Morgan County.
Check back for results from the state duals this coming weekend.
