The Rockmart Yellow Jackets are getting back to business on Tuesday evening at home in a region contest, and what’s more, they are doing so after taking a big set of tournament wins to bring home the 2021 Hillburn-Patterson Invitational Championship.
The team went 3-0 through the final week of December, including squeaking out a one-point victory over rival Cedartown in the semifinals 48-47, an opening-round 80-72 victory over Bowdon, and the tournament victory over Harvester Christian Academy 61-54.
All-tournament team selections for Rockmart included Treylin Davis and the Tournament MVP Jakari Clark.
The Jackets opened the season with a victory over Chattooga back in November, but have since bounced back and forth after region and non-region play through December on the win and loss column.
Rockmart’s at 6-5 overall on the year and 1-4 in 6-AAA as they head into a Tuesday night homestand against the Ringgold Tigers, who sit at 4-9 on the year. Rockmart sits in seventh place in the crowded region, with trips to North Murray on Friday and Coahulla Creek in Dalton on Jan. 10, followed by a visit to Adairsville on Jan. 14 in hopes of balancing out an early-season loss to the Tigers in region play.
The Jackets will be on the road for the next few weeks, but return home on Jan. 25 to face Coahulla Creek.
