The Rockmart Yellow Jackets set the tone for how they want the season to go – which now starts Saturday – after they took a 73-65 win over the Bremen Blue Devils on Tuesday in scrimmage play.
The Jackets’ senior forward Damian Horton put up 24 points and 19 rebounds (and a dunk that didn’t count late on a travel call) along with sophomore Treylin Davis with 31 points drove the Jackets to victory, even though it took an additional four minutes to get there in overtime.
Rockmart kept consistently ahead of Bremen even through a second-half lull that allowed the Blue Devils to catch up, and eventually the two tied off of traded shots late in the game.
Rockmart and Bremen went in tied at 61, but the Jackets went on a late run and added 12 to the scoreboard for the victory, including a late Trent Pace layup with seconds left on the clock.
The Jackets have Chattooga on Saturday for the official opener of the year, a reschedule of a game that was supposed to happen in January. Rockmart tips off after the Lady Jackets conclude their 3 p.m. matchup with the Lady Indians, expected around 4:30 p.m.
