Community Share Ministries property up for zoning change for SafeHaven Ranch

County Commissioners will get a chance to decide whether they will allow the SafeHaven Ranch project to move ahead with another step as a zoning change for the Piedmont Highway property is up for a vote.

Tuesday evening, the public will get a chance to voice their opinion on the matter during the work session as a public hearing is being held ahead of a County Commission vote on a change to the status of the Piedmont Highway property that is the future home of SafeHaven Ranch.

Anyone who wants to comment on the development will have to wait through some other public hearings first, as the County Commission will hear comments on seven different requests in total on their June agenda.

Community Share Ministries’ request is sixth in the line of order on the agenda for the night (found here.)

The property is currently designated A-1, meaning only certain activities can happen and are permitted for the use. Mainly those are centered around agriculture, but in 2021 Community Share Ministries founder Jason Slaughter made a purchase of the land and began a journey to turn it into SafeHaven Ranch.

He held a groundbreaking ceremony at the time, and some work has been done to get everything up and running on the site.

However to be able to build several places for SafeHaven Ranch families to take up residence and serve as foster parents and siblings for children who are brought into the program, they first have to go through some needed steps to allow for the site plan to work out.

Building a complex of homes requires a change in zoning from the current A-1 to PRD, which necessitates the hearing and the forthcoming decision put before the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday evening, June 4 during their regular session. The request went before the Planning and Zoning board in May and did receive approval to move ahead from members

The work session begins at 5:15 p.m., with the regular session to follow after the conclusion of the first round of the evening’s business.

County Commissioners meet at 73 Cline Ingram Jackson Road in Cedartown at the Polk County Police Department headquarters.
