Bad timing resulted in a woman being arrested for a warrant and an additional misdemeanor charge after Polk County Police were called out to a residence for a separate incident, according to reports.
Melissa Shanta Byrom, 42, of a Lindale address, was booked into the Polk County Jail on Saturday evening, May 25 after she showed up at a residence while an officer was taking a theft report.
The officer was called out to a Cole Road address in Rockmart to hear from the victim of a theft. The victim told officers a Honda Shadow motorcycle was taken by a suspect who simply went by “Dirty” after he left the motorcycle for a few hours and found it missing upon the victim’s return. They did want to press charges and list the motorcycle as stolen as soon as possible.
While the officer was taking the theft report, Byrom and another individual pulled up to the Cole Road residence and told police when asked they were coming to “check on a friend.” The officer ran both names via 911, and Byrom was found to have a warrant for her arrest.
Upon searching her purse after being taken into custody, police found several pill bottles inside with suspected pain killers kept within. The bottles were not labeled to determine what type they were.
Byrom told police that she didn’t know the pills were in her purse at the time, and must have been added to her purse without her knowledge under the assumption she was the one who owned the pills.
She was charged with a misdemeanor for pills not in original container and for a failure to appear warrant.
Byrom remained in custody on a $1,500 bond.
