Polk County Police arrested a woman last week who ultimately helped her son evade capture by authorities, according to reports.

Tina Renee Weldon, 46, of a Cedartown address, was taken into custody last week on Thursday, May 16, and later released on bond on a felony charge after she was involved in helping her son avoid authorities serving a warrant for his arrest on felony charges.

Per the report, Weldon took her son Jonathan Shoemaker from Cedartown after a witness reported that Shoemaker came to his mother’s residence and knocked on a window to ask for her help. Weldon is believed to have taken Shoemaker to Haralson County afterward.

Officers told Weldon that if she had helped Shoemaker in any way that she would then be in trouble herself. A recording of a phone call made to 911 noted that Weldon said “she is taking her son to a safe place.”

Shoemaker is also reported to have called the Polk County Sheriff’s Office pretending to be an officer inquiring about the felony warrants for his arrest, per officials at the PCSO.

The reporting officer for PCPD ultimately went to 911 to listen to the phone call Weldon made previously, and officers from Cedartown Police caught up with her at The Farmer’s Store.

She was taken into custody without incident.

Police are still searching for Jonathan Shoemaker.

Weldon was held until Friday, May 17 in the jail until she was released on a $5,000 bond on the felony charge of hindering apprehension or punishment of criminal.

First of all she did not take him to Haralson County. He stole my daughters car which was not yet registered and his mom told him where to take it and she then helped him by following him letting him dump my daughters car which was found in Haralson county. He tried running my daughter’s car which over with the car even the bus driver saw it as he sped off in front of her while she was letting kids off bus. The police up there I assume still have her car because they found it with no keys in which he either threw them or took them with him. Regardless I hope they catch him cause he missed court date on a prior and hasn’t even went to court yet on this one.
