REPORT: Grandpa fights grandson to breakup domestic assault, both jailed

A grandfather fought his grandson to breakup a domestic assault on Wednesday evening, and both men went to jail for the front yard combat per Polk County Police reports.

Officers arrested Richard Lynn Wright, 22, and Ronnie Wayne Nails, 58, both of Cedartown addresses, after police heard from witnesses, the victim of the domestic assault and from both men to determine what happened on Feb. 21 between the pair.

Per the report, the fight began after Wright was accused by a victim of assaulting her and cutting up her pants with a knife, and during the assault Nails was reported to have banged on the bedroom door where it was happening and told Wright if he wanted to fight, he could come outside and take on his grandfather.

Wright chose to go outside, and per both men and witnesses they began to fight. At one point, Wright got ahold of a shovel and attempted to hit Nails with it. Nails wrestled it away and struck his grandson in return.

After that, Wright went to a neighboring house to flee the fight. A neighbor also told police they attempted to break up the combat after “letting it go on for a few minutes.”

Once hearing from everyone involved, Wright and Nails were both taken into custody without further incident on Wednesday evening and booked into the Polk County Jail.

Wright was charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor affray. He remains in custody on a $7,000 bond as of this posting.

Nails was also still in custody on the single misdemeanor charge of affray, with a $1,000 bond set for his release.
